Too much oil will cause your exact symptoms. If it's the least bit higher than the crosshatching drain some out. Put it on the center stand and recheck your oil level- screw the cap on, unscrew, then look at the oil level. Re the hesitation: Get the bike warmed up, then shut it down. I think this website does a really good job covering scooters from a real scooter riders point of view. I have not researched as to why but my thinking is a quality gear oil would be best.Ī really positive review. Nope they religiously recommend motor oil here as well. You would think this would be a perfect candidate for a very high quality gear oil. Its not an easy thing to service and you have to remove the lower left side skirt and then muscle with the CVT cover that has a habit of being overly complex. The final drive on the Burgman's really surprise me. I use Honda 80W-90 in my PCX 125 without issue and probably will use the same on the PCX 150 at some point. They both may vent to the airbox but I doubt final drive oil would ever find its way into the crank case. On the PCX forum they recommend strongly that you use motor oil in the final drive because apparently the gear box and the engine are somehow linked. Some are religiously motor oil for the gear box like the Burgman and the PCX. Some bikes are religiously gear oil like the Genuine scoots. A good gear oil with fully broken in gears will easily last 10,000 miles or more before something bad starts happening. Especially if you don't plan on replacing it every year. In my opinion regardless of what the manufactures recommend I think gear oil is always the better choice. It looked so good I almost dumped it back in but did not. Admittedly it did not have a ton of miles on that interval but the oil came out perfectly clean. I replaced with Honda brand 80W-90 conventional gear oil and drained it recently after 3 years. I suppose if you change it often it really does not matter. Interestingly not much metal glitter so obviously the regular motor oil protected well but the oil sure took a beating. When I bought my Majesty it has motor oil in the final drive and it came out as thin as water and gloss black. A few times over the years loose battery connections can cause all sorts of weirdness.Ĭlick to expand.Maybe I am old school but I prefer gear oil in my final drive. I think for good measure today I plan to pull the battery cover on the Hooligan and take a look at the connections making sure they are tight and that everything is hooked up as it should. Its either the Costco gas (doubtful) or this ethanol crap they are trying to pass as gas. Its as if I am sucking water for a few seconds is what it feels like. I have had this happen this summer on a couple of other bikes. I have been getting my gas at Costco but perhaps maybe I will stop. My first thought was some funny gas and the gas tank is at 1/4 tank now. Then about as fast as it came on the problem went away. Giving it more throttle only made it worse. At a speed of 45 MPH the scooter hesitated and stuttered for about 10 seconds and I started to loose speed. Also rechecked the oil level in the crank and its right at the top of the marks on the dipstick.Īll was well until I got about halfway home. Still on these scoots if you overfill the final drive it has a tendency to come out and make a mess on the rear tire. I was pretty careful and measured the oil witch was exactly the same as what came out. I was looking extra careful at the back wheel making sure I did not overfill the final drive. Discharged batteries are usually not the same even if you successfully get them back up to spec.Īfter doing my maintenance work I took the Hooligan out for some errands and stop by my folks place. Easy simple fix but I would probably request a new battery if it was not something stupid I personally did. Luckily it was just a wire that was not placed on the battery. I found it a bit discerning about the gremlin they had at 60 miles. Click to expand.A really positive review.
